Greater Manchester Police: custody detention officer — dismissed without notice

A GMP custody detention officer was dismissed without notice after a hearing found gross misconduct proven for sending unsolicited sexualised images and messages. Other allegations were not found. He is unnamed in the IOPC notice.
Greater Manchester Police held a one-day hearing on 29 May 2026. The IOPC published the completed outcome on 2 June 2026. The decision date is historical. It is not a new event today.
The staff member is a custody detention officer. The IOPC notice does not name him. That is respected here.
The panel found he breached honesty and integrity; authority, respect and courtesy; instructions; and discreditable conduct. He was dismissed without notice and placed on the barred list.
The IOPC said he sent unsolicited sexualised photographs, videos and messages, including pictures of himself in uniform at work and an image of his penis. In interview he admitted exchanging numbers and that messages got “a bit sexual”.
The IOPC did not find evidence for other allegations, including that he used police systems to obtain the woman’s number, or that he had touched her inappropriately. Those remain not proven on the published record.
A file was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS decided not to charge. No criminal conviction is recorded. No appeal is stated.
