A Nottinghamshire custody sergeant was dismissed with immediate effect after an accelerated hearing found gross misconduct proven for discriminatory comments to a detainee. The officer was not named in the IOPC notice.
Nottinghamshire Police held an accelerated misconduct hearing on 2 September 2026. The IOPC published the completed outcome on 3 September 2026.
The officer is a custody sergeant. The IOPC notice does not name him. That anonymity is respected here.
The panel found gross misconduct proven for breaches of equality and diversity, authority, respect and courtesy, and discreditable conduct. He was dismissed with immediate effect and is to be placed on the barred list.
The IOPC said that on 19 November the previous year, while escorting a detainee towards a prison van at Mansfield police station, he made discriminatory comments including telling the detainee to “go home” and “get on a boat and go back to where you come from”. The force referred the matter on 27 November.
This is a serving dismissal, not a “would have been dismissed” finding. No criminal conviction is stated. No appeal is stated.
